Adelaide Bank Business Development Manager Stephane Feuillye has developed a passion for banking and lending over the 20 years he has worked in the industry.
“My work is my driving force. I absolutely love what I do. We make people's dreams of home ownership come true and I want to make that process as straightforward as possible,” he says.
With a natural affinity for numbers, Steph has worked across all facets of the lending process, from his early days in call centres and branches, into sales, mobile lending and credit assessment.
This vital experience gives him an unparalleled understanding of lending and loans. “I appreciate the urgency that is required of brokers. Our BDMs understand a customer applying for a loan is looking to their broker to help them fulfil their hopes and dreams,” he says.
Making it personal
The personal approach everyone at Adelaide Bank takes sets us apart.
“The whole team, from the call centre to the credit assessors to the backend team, talk to each other. We're hungry and that differentiates us from other banks and makes us favourite partner to the broking community” says Steph.
COVID has meant many aspects of lending and banking have moved into the virtual world, including interviews and electronic loan documentation.
“So, we've implemented process improvements and reduced friction, which will carry on post-COVID. We’re making it even easier to deal with us,” he adds.
Lifetime achievement
Steph says becoming a BDM has been one of the proudest moments of his career. “I get to help so many people,” he explains.
Before joining the banking sector, he was awarded a scholarship to the Australian Defence Force Academy, which he credits with helping him to develop the strong leadership skills he has been able to apply to his current role.
“Much of the work you carry out in the army involves problem-solving skills, which is highly applicable in finance, particularly in the process of assessing a loan application. Many loans are not straightforward and so it is about finding a balance from both a credit point of view and also a sales point of view when you’re assessing a loan,” he explains.
Bringing everything to the role
Outside banking, Steph is an avid scuba diver which, like lending, also requires a keen focus on risk management. He has dived around Australia in places such as the Barrier Reef and also overseas in Thailand and wants to dive in Egypt in the future.
“I absolutely love the peacefulness of being under the water and the wildlife. But I’m equally as absorbed by my job. It's a privilege to be a cog in the machine that makes people's dreams come true,” he says.
